The Authority is designated as Cumberland County’s solid waste coordinator and landfill operator as well as the economic development entity. In these varied roles The Authority directly and indirectly impacts the quality of life for residents and businesses in Cumberland County and throughout the southern New Jersey region. Each responsibility is multi-layered and provides benefits to the entire community.

Solid Waste Complex:
The Authority has handled Cumberland County’s landfill needs with sound environmental practices and forward-thinking management. Ongoing projects are aimed at decreasing costs, protecting the environment, expanding shared service opportunities and increasing energy sources for the region.

Economic Development:
The Authority is designated as Cumberland County’s economic development and redevelopment agency. The Authority’s role is to advocate for local businesses, assist in relocating new business and industry to Cumberland County and to be a catalyst for development and innovation across the county.

The Cumberland County Improvement Authority not only facilitates private development projects across the county, but also develops, constructs and manages many public facilities and shared services projects throughout the Southern New Jersey Region including Cumberland, Salem, Cape May and Burlington County. Public improvements facilitated through The Authority include schools, municipal buildings, transportation facilities, housing developments, infrastructure redevelopment, roadway construction and historic preservation.
